Extremely popular in the USA & UK and now growing across Australia, West Coast Swing is characterised as a linear dance, emphasising connection between the partners as well as improvisation and personal interpretation of the music, giving it an elastic, smooth & sexy look & feel.
This style can be danced slow and sexy, smooth and sophisticated, or fast and rhythmically to most types of music, including Top40, R'n'B, classic Swing, Jazz, Funk, Blues, Pop, Country & Western and Hip Hop.
Where Can I Learn?
Classes are held on Monday nights at Lane Cove Bowling Club, 151 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove.
Please note we are closed for the public holiday on the June Long Weekend - Monday 11th June.
The first beginner class starts at 7.30pm, followed by social dance time and a second beginner class and an intermediate class at 8.50pm - everyone's welcome, especially first timers!
Our beginner classes work on a five week rotation - you don't have to start on Week 1, but it's great if you can, as that way you'll be starting with the easier moves and increasing your challenge each week. Our next Week One for beginners is on Monday 18th Juhe 2012.
Beginner and Intermediate teachers include West Coast Swing experts Ajay, Amy, Clayton, Clint, Dave, Deanna, Janine, Jo, Nathan, Robert and Sarah.

We recommend that all beginners complete at least one, often two cycles of the five week syllabus before trying the intermediate class - having said that, we know it's still a fairly big jump when you decide to "step it up" to the next level.
This workshop is aimed at easing that transition by building on your basics, refining your technique, and building your confidence to take some moves and patterns that you already know, and step them up to intermediate level.

Friday 8th to Sunday 10th June Championships Weekend West Coast Swing and Modern Jive - everyone is welcome to our Pre Champs Dance Party on Friday night at Club Willoughby and our Post Champs Celebration Party on Sunday night at Dee Why RSL. Ceroc Modern Jive competitions are held on Saturday, West Coast Swing on Sunday.
PLUS West Coast Swing Champions Scott Stuart and Melina Ramirez-Stuart (pictured right) are teaching a one hour West Coast Swing Workshop on Friday night at Club Willoughby. Bookings only $15 per person ($20 on the door - however spaces are limited). The workshop will focus on musical interpretation and is aimed at West Coast Swing dancers who have a good grasp of their basics and want to become more creative in their style.
