Beginner Progression Classes

On all regular Ceroc class nights (except Lane Cove and Rosehill) we run Beginner Progression classes. They are included in the initial cost of the night so please stay and take part. They are a thorough, personalised revision of the Beginner class with additional tips on the fundamentals of dance technique to consolidate your learning process. Plus, being a much smaller group you are able to ask the teacher questions about your dancing.

Anthony & Susie

Beginner Specialist Ceroc Classes

As well as our regular Beginner classes at all venues we run Specialist Beginner classes every week. These classes are really friendly, almost everyone is a beginner or if they’re not a beginner they are willing to help you learn so you can ask questions whenever you want without feeling intimidated.

We usually teach about three moves per class. We take it nice and slowly and go through lots of technique and detail. This means that you can then go onto the standard Beginners Classes with all the basics thoroughly mastered.

The class only costs $12 (including some freestyle practise time) and concentrates on the basic skills such as rhythm and timing, hand holds, spinning, lead and follow techniques.

If you think you have two left feet, or thought the standard Beginner’s class was too fast, then this class is definitely for you.

Our specialist Beginner Classes run every week - there’s no need to book as we don’t run courses. Just turn up any week and join in the fun. No need to bring a partner. Check the venue listing for details.

The break down of the average Ceroc night is a follows:

  • 07:30* - Beginner class (a chance to meet new friends and have fun learning to dance)
  • 08:20 - Freestyle session - your chance to practice your moves to music. Dance Guides (see below) are available for you
  • 08:50 - A Beginner Progression class runs concurrently with the Intermediate class
  • 09:50 - Freestyle session
  • 10:30* - Finish

* Please check the venue listing for exact class times as they differ from venue to venue.

Dance Guide Badge

Dance Guides
Don’t forget to have a dance with our friendly Dance Guides. They are there at most venues each week to dance with YOU during the first social dancing break. They will help you get the hang of Ceroc very quickly and dance you through some of the basic beginner moves. There’s both a female and a male dance guide. The Beginner teacher will identify them on each night so PLEASE ask them for a dance. Dancing with someone more experienced than you is the best way to learn.

Progress to Intermediate

Beginners often ask how long it will take them to get to Intermediate level. It really depends on the individual, whether you have other dance experience and how quickly you learn both the moves and the correct technique to master the basics. Attending workshops such as the Intromediate Workshop, doing plenty of Beginner and Beginner Progression classes and practising the beginner moves as much as possible (our twice monthly dance parties are excellent ways to improve your “freestyle” dancing and dance with a variety of different people of varying standards) will help you move up quickly to Intermediate standard.

As a general guide we recommend that you have completed at least eight weeks of regular Beginner (and Beginner Progression) classes before attempting to move to the next level. Be aware that there is a big jump between the Beginner and Intermediate classes so don’t move up too early and be disappointed. Try one or more of our monthly Intromediate classes (see our current newsletter or website www.ceroc.com.au for details) and be totally confident that you are a competent and “safe” beginner dancer before making the next step.

The Intermediate dancers in the class will expect you to be able to:
